“We wish you a…” It’s about that time of the year where people travel and enjoy the festive season with family and friends. It may not feel like its holiday time but 2020 is coming to an end. Though the pandemic wave is far from over in some countries, there seems to be a glimmer of hope through the roll out of COVID-19 vaccine trials. Every crisis brings with it opportunities. Rather than think of this as the year that never was, you can come out of it smarter. So, what are some of the lessons we can take away from 2020?

Adaptability

Scientists predicted that there would be a first and second wave of the pandemic. For many, the first wave was challenging enough so how would they handle the second one? The answer is adaptability; the ability to cope with change. Most organizations had to adapt to remote working for the safety of their team members.

In life, there will be unexpected shifts but that is what makes it worthwhile. Don’t resist change. Focus on what you can control then take it one step at a time.

Creativity

People being stuck indoors with limited things to do created the need for creative ideas to keep themselves busy. The quarantine period revealed creativity in ways some never thought possible. Whether it was through use of social media or making quarantine songs, creativity flourished like never before. We started to think out of the box or in this case out of our homes. The pandemic caused the inventive side to blossom. The art of coming up with innovative solutions or ideas to problems is a skill you need to enhance moving forward.

Collaboration

It is often said, “Great things in business are never done by one person. They’re done by a team of people.” Working with a group of diverse people enables you to see risks and prospects from different angles that you wouldn’t have otherwise seen on your own. During a crisis, what determines whether a company and employees thrive is team work.

Leadership

In as much as team work is important, there needs to be a reliable leader. Not just any leader but one with resilience. Quick to communicate, honest and understands how to deal with mistakes when they occur. For more on lessons leaders need to emerge with, Click Here.
