A new wave of blockchain technology is changing and disrupting the job market. There are many blockchain applications in business today, and this means that most businesses will start requiring skills in the blockchain. Generally, blockchain technology allows a business to create an append-only transaction ledger. This means that the ledger created is permanent and traceable.

Many businesses and organizations have bought into the viability of blockchain technology. Some of the potential employers include startups, government, technology companies, and conventional industries. As a result of this, most businesses are expected to adopt blockchain in their future transactions.

Here are five career opportunities in blockchain.

1. Designer

Blockchain applications are achieved through the building of platforms and computer systems. These platforms allow the business to provide better services to their customers. It also allows the business to optimize its operations. In order to realize this, there is a need for a platform designer. As a result of the rising demand for blockchain-based platforms, there will be an increase in demand for designers. The role of the designer is to design the working of the blockchain-based platform. The designer is also required to design an appealing user interface that will easily use the platform’s functionalities. Therefore, there is bound to be a lot of career opportunities for blockchain designers.

2. Developer

Once a blockchain platform has been designed, it must be coded by a software development team. Working with blockchain platforms requires niche-specific skills. This means that an ordinary developer will not be able to handle these tasks easily. This is an opportunity for blockchain experts with coding skills to get a career as blockchain developers. The career opportunities in this field are expected to grow exponentially. Typical coding skills required include experience working with languages such as Python, Javascript, and C++ besides working knowledge of blockchain.

3. Blockchain Engineer

A blockchain engineer’s role is to create and lead blockchain-based solutions for organizations and businesses. Therefore, the blockchain engineer is the brains guiding the design and implementation of blockchain-based systems. They are also expected to lead in setting up blockchain infrastructure.

Another role can be a quality engineer. The quality engineer is expected to work in the blockchain platform development environment as a quality control expert to ensure that the quality of the blockchain-based systems is able to work well in the business environment.

4. Blockchain Legal Expert

Blockchain, just like other technological advancements, has legal issues arising around it. For instance, the use of bitcoin and any other cryptocurrency is not allowed by banks in Kenya. This means that if a business is paid in cryptocurrency, then there will be a legal issue of withdrawing the funds into their bank accounts. Due to such issues, there will be a need to have a legal consultant. Therefore, if you are a lawyer and have a working knowledge of blockchain, you should consider a career path as a blockchain legal expert.

5. Blockchain Expert Consultant

There is always a business or individual who ventures into a field that they are not very conversant with. This is where expert consultants come in; they provide insight into the field at a fee. As a blockchain expert, it is important to note that many businesses will want to venture into blockchain systems but will not have the technical skills. This is where your opportunity lies. For instance, if you have expertise in how cryptocurrencies work, you can act as a consultant for an organization that wants to accept crypto payments. You can start a blockchain consultancy or work in one.

Conclusion

As illustrated above, it is apparent that skills in blockchain technology come in handy for anyone. Whether you are a developer, lawyer or accountant, these skills will definitely create a new career path for you if you have skills in the blockchain. It is important to note that careers in blockchain are codependent on skills from conventional careers such as IT, law or economics. Therefore, whether you are a techie geek or not, you can shape your blockchain career with working knowledge in the blockchain.
