“Wakanda Forever!” If you’re a movie lover then you understand where the cross-armed salute saying comes from. If not, I recommend you spare some time to watch the Black Panther  movie. The lead actor Chadwick Boseman aka Black Panther recently passed on at the prime of his life and career. This was a huge blow to the film industry. He was admired and respected not only as a person but also for what he stood.  As a celebration to the life he lived, here’s what you can learn from him on how to leave a lasting legacy:

1. Support a cause

Early during his childhood, he went through a loss that made him realize the need to support the young, gifted and black generation. He wasn’t scared to use his platform in the film industry to voice out on such issues. Contribute to the change you want to see by supporting a cause that impacts your local community.

2. Mentor

Share with the younger generation what it takes to achieve a goal and help them see their potential to make it. One of his cast members in the Black Panther expressed how he created a space for everyone on set to feel safe, open and bold. He made a significant impact on everyone he met and an inspiration to his fans.

3. Passion

Do what you love and you will love what you do. Boseman’s love for theatre never faded even though he had on-screen roles. He also directed a number of plays which won several theatre awards. His passion is one that many will associate him with. What you choose to pursue is how people will remember you.

4. Resilience

Understand that life does have challenges even as you follow your career path. All that is meant to shape your purpose. Despite dealing with health issues, he continued doing what he loved. He didn’t allow that to get in way of fulfilling his purpose and in the end he left a lasting legacy.

5. Team work

Appreciate the fact that you stood on the shoulders of those before you. Those who worked with you and for you. Boseman always acknowledged that the success he had in his life was made possible by the people who supported and worked with him.

In conclusion

Peter Strople said, “Legacy is not leaving something for people. It’s leaving something in people.” Even as you aspire to be successful in your career, what legacy do you hope to leave behind? What are you doing now to achieve it? Share with us in the comment section below.

Legacy is Not wishful thinking, but rather Hard work, Discipline, Consistency and being Focused. The journey of Legends is characterized by sacrifices and humility. In most of the movies I have watched in recent days, it appears Chadwick always stood for right values. MHSRIP.

    Seif | September 03, 2020 05:08

Dear author, Thank you for this article, it is uplifting indeed! Chadwick Boseman has truly left a legacy and has been an inspiration to all of us, mostly those of us who have an African ethnicity and have aspirations to be the best versions of themselves in this life. As I aspire to be successful in my career, I want to leave a legacy of tutoring as many youths as I can through my future education program and be a living proof that indeed you can be a multi million dollar entrepreneur from any part of the world as our predecessors have proved to us. I want to have private school systems that incorporate practical lessons on the handling of money for as we all know the sprout should be trimmed while still young. Many youths finish school and get successful careers but still struggle in their finance welfares because they have the knowledge and skills required to make money but they lack a real life practical education on how to have financial amplitude, on how to make every dollar that lands in their hands count. That's the legacy I intend to leave behind. Seif.

    MANG'ULA | September 03, 2020 04:52

It is quite unfortunate that Chadwick left us at an early age. But I believe he had served his God given purpose. The impact he has left behind is huge and will be spoken about for years to come. I see alot of resemblance with Chadwick. When I was young I underwent a very traumatising event. But people came in and impacted into my life. So I feel an obligation to do the same. I am an aspiring Psychologist. Currently I do Counseling. I am very passionate about Mental Health. I have been Mentoring young boys and girls and especially with the serge in Teenage pregnancies. I've been having candid talks with them. On the consequences of early Sexual activities. It is said that everything has its Time. That has been my message to them. After every cohort session with the girls (we were giving them Sanitary pads and underpants and for the Boys Boxers and socks) Depending on availability of donations from people, we would also give them.a Care Basket. During the session with the Boys we talk about about being a Real Man. Resilience was one characteristic. Now I have a very good example of a case study, Black Panther himself. #WakandaForever!!
