Kenya
Commonwealth Business Women Network (CBW), Kenya Chapter launched.
The Commonwealth Business Women Network, a lobby group that brings together female entrepreneurs from over 54 countries, launched its Kenya Chapter on Tuesday. This launch brings a lot of opportunities for Kenyan business women who will now be able to tap into what is referred to as the Commonwealth Advantage which will support and help them grow their businesses. CBW Africa was launched in 2017 to empower women economically.
GT Bank shutting down non-performing branches.
Guaranty Trust Bank (GT Bank) has announced the closure of its non-performing branches the first one being the Ngong Road branch which will be shut down by 30th September. Though the move to restructure will affect the bank’s customers, it may see its staff retrenched.
“In a bid to re-strategize our operations and continue to offer excellent and efficient service, we hereby advise that we shall be closing our Ngong Road branch on 30thSeptember 2019. For our Ngong Road branches customers, kindly be advised your account will remain. Further to this, you will be able to access your usual banking services at our Karen Branch or any of our other branches,” read part of the circular sent to customers.
Celebrating passion… Self taught Chef, Maliha Mohamed breaks Guinness World Record
After failing to participate in 2018’s cooking competition due to financial constraints, Kenyan Chef- Maliha Mohamed was again nominated for this year’s competition where she smashed the previously held world record of 68 hours by cooking for 75 hours non stop. The newly crowned winner showcased her cooking prowess by cooking 400 recipes of both local and international cuisines to win the much coveted international award.
Uganda
Uganda SMEs to be trained by Stanbic Bank & GIZ
SMEs in Uganda are set to benefit from the Employment and Skills for Eastern Africa (E4D/SOGA) programme by GIZ and Stanbic Bank. The enterprise training targets local SMEs and seeks to enhance their capacities in order to leverage the upcoming opportunities in the oil and gas sector. The program is jointly funded by the British, Norwegian and German governments.
