With a lot of young people struggling to find employment & make money in a difficult economy made even more difficult with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important for them to think on their feet to survive and make a way. Nabukenya Shakira is one young person who has managed to do so with help from the JForce program run by Jumia Uganda.
“Early this year, a friend of mine introduced me to Fuzu. We were looking for jobs and something to do and we came across the ad for JForce. I immediately applied because I believed it would allow me to put my marketing skills to task.” she said.
The JForce program is a Jumia’s Sales Consultants program that aims at empowering and enriching entrepreneurs to be with the support of an established brand. Agents place orders on behalf of customers and are able to make a commission with each sale.
On what her experience has been like, she admits to a few challenges as with all careers, “Some customers don’t easily trust online shopping, so to make them comfortable I urge them to use cash on delivery or I take them through the order process including prepayment. Lockdown was also another challenge but personally, I thrived because a lot of people were not able to move so they depended on online shopping to get some basic items like groceries so I was able to make a good number of sales.”

Shakira goes on to urge young people like her to try out the program like she did, “The whole JForce experience has taught me so much about marketing and how to attract customers to what you sell. I would advise young people who are looking for a way to earn extra money to join JForce and even after you join, stay positive, love what you do and the sales will come. The money I have made from JForce has allowed me to support my family to pay for bills like rent in the past few months and for that I am thankful.”
