Company culture influences all aspects of the organization. Many physical business locations and offices have been forced to close their doors. This has led to remote working by their teams as a primary alternative. These challenges provide a chance for progress. Maintaining the culture virtually needs to be a priority. It is necessary in paving the way forward for your team and you as a leader. How can that be done away from the physical workplace?
1. Mission statement
This plays a big role in ensuring that your team is working towards a shared objective. In the midst of uncertainty, encourage everyone in the company to apply it as they work on their given tasks. You can also involve your teams in decisions which are aligned to the mission.
2. Productivity
Rather than making sure that an employee is putting in the working hours focus on the output. You can’t physically supervise as they work so you depend on seeing the results of their work. While input is important, keeping track of their productivity motivates the employee to perform more.
3. Inclusivity
Many employees aren’t used to working from home. They miss the interaction in the office. Check in with everyone’s needs through running surveys. You can come up with ideas together and implement them so no one feels left out. Become intentional in implementing a system to help with inclusion. Check in to find out what’s working and what’s not for them.
4. Affirmation
Working to meet the deadlines and achieve the desired goal takes discipline and commitment. Your team wants to feel uplifted especially during this time. Employee recognition lets them know that they are of value and have something to contribute. Taking the time to notice their efforts builds stronger relationships and boosts the company culture.
5. Communication
First you need to decide on the best channels of communication you will use then ensure everyone is contributing. Be clear and transparent when communicating. Set aside regular times to give details on upcoming projects or shifts that have been made. Reiterate that feedback or suggestions are welcomed.
