Times are changing and not only are they just changing but the aspect of thinking one has control over anything has become just but an illusion. Not to worry anyone, but anything can go wrong anytime, and this has been proven by the ongoing pandemic of covid-19. Schools are one of the most affected institutions and have had to close temporarily.

However, as a teacher and one in this digital era for that matter, the shift has forced us to be creative or rather take advantage of what we have at hand and that is digital learning through applications and gadgets i.e. smartphones, laptops, iPad, tablets etc.

There are several ways in which this can be made effective by leveraging on the available resources. Here are some tips that will help you make digital homeschooling a fun learning experience:

Take advantage of digital tools e.g. Google Classroom.

I would love to share this with you since it is always a first choice for many teachers. It is a free to download mobile application on playstore and is user friendly. If you are a teacher all you need to do is download the app then use your email address to create a class to your own specifications that is specific subject and class. What the students need to do is share their email addresses with the teacher who’ll then invite them to their respective classes. The invites will be received as notifications.

Designate learning space.

In order to achieve the best, learners need a dedicated space for leaning. The set-up should create a quite and comfortable environment free from distractions such as televisions. A dedicated learning space can be a motivating factor, improve the learner’s creativity and help them see learning as a priority in the home.

Set up structure and routine.

The teacher with the help of his/her own students can stipulate a given time where they can all join in the classroom for effective learning. However, the teacher in giving instructions and especially assignments should indicate the duration in which the assignment should be done. Google Classroom has made it possible for the students to get the notification when marks are given by their teacher. Therefore, the students can complete assignments and submit their answers privately for their teacher to mark and return. This will ensure a flexible routine between the teacher and students.

Considering this is the millennials era, students tend to find it easier and much more interesting using digital platforms in learning because they tend to find it free and entertaining as it is more of a group chat.
