Job Summary

Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) combats gender inequality and extreme poverty in urban slums by linking tuition free schools for girls to holistic social services for all. SHOFCO currently employs over 350 people and this number is growing. We are dedicated to local leaders and employees.   1. P1 Certificate or Diploma in Adult education and Community Development or related field
  2. At least 2 years of experience teaching Adult education
  3. Knowledge of standard office administrative practices and procedures


  1. Work with Education Director to develop/adapt a comprehensive tailor made adult education curriculum to suit the needs the adult learners.
  2. Prepare schemes of work and lesson plans to be used in the curriculum implementation process.
  3. Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans and incorporate specific, measurable, behavioral objectives and timeframes.
  4. Assist in designing a system to monitor and evaluate students’ attendance and performance.
  5. Submit weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly reports.
  6. Provide students with suggestions and feedback.
  7. Assist in the recruitment of participants, including participating in community outreach programs.
  8. Work with other program coordinators to integrate program with others.
  9. Ensure the creation and maintenance of a safe, orderly classroom environment.
  10. Work with M&E for measurement of achievements attainment of program’s desired outcomes.
  11. Design training manual and a long term plan for the program.
  12. Review existing literacy curricula, learning materials and training methodologies and modify/adapt to suit the specific contexts and conditions.
  13. Develop and review literacy curricular, new life skills curricula, learning materials and training methodologies.
  14. Collaborate with the Kenya Adult Learners’ Association (KALA) to develop SHOFCO’s own Adult Literacy curriculum.
  15. Development of quantitative and qualitative data collections to ensure monitoring and evaluation.
