Job Summary

We seek to recruit an Advocacy and Policy Officer who will envision and implement activities to achieve PATH’s cross-cutting policy and advocacy goals related to maternal, newborn and child health. The Advocacy and Communications Officer will directly report to the Senior Policy and Advocacy Officer in Kenya and also the ECD Global Team Leader. The Advocacy and Communications Officer will also coordinate closely with the Kenya ECD Program Officer and regional ECD technical advisors. The Advocacy and Policy Officer will be based in Nairobi.


Responsibilities

  1. Conceive and implement a variety of advocacy and communication activities to inform and influence policymakers, decision-makers, thought leaders, advocates and influencers, in target countries in Kenya and other East and Southern Africa countries to elevate integrated early childhood development (ECD) on the national and regional health and development agenda.
  2. Work closely with advocacy and policy teams at PATH to identify strategic advocacy and communications opportunities and approaches to achieve objectives and increase visibility of maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH), with an emphasis on child health, and other PATH priorities in Kenya and other East and Southern African countries.
  3. In collaboration with advocacy and ECD leadership, contribute to the design of new programming and write proposals to support business development.
  4. Develop and implement advocacy strategies to mobilize national and sub-national resources for MNCH in Kenya and strategically advise PATH advocates in East and Southern African countries on successful approaches to budget advocacy.
  5. Advanced writing of versatile communications products on ECD and MNCH, and other topics and policies – including fact sheets, commentaries, blogs, op-eds, press releases, policy briefs, policy papers, talking points, case studies and digital content packages (web, social media and multimedia).
  6. Provide project management across advocacy and policy-related activities in Kenya and prepare work plans for assigned focus areas in conjunction with other team members.
  7. Liaise with PATH technical and advocacy experts in other countries to develop advocacy and communication strategies to advance their program objectives.
  8. Develop productive internal and external relationships with donors, health specialists and global advocates, and allied public and private partners to achieve advocacy goals, particularly related to ECD and the Global Financing Facility.
  9. Participate in team strategy and work plan meetings to contribute toward the development and execution of the programs objectives and priorities and to ensure close linkages between PATH’s evidence gathering, implementation and advocacy efforts.
