Job Summary

ROLE PURPOSE:
The holder of this role is responsible for developing policy and driving the design and implementation of effective global child poverty advocacy strategies and tactics for Save the Children, drawing on technical expertise, experience and learning across child poverty and other relevant areas promoting a local to global approach. The holder will coordinate our work internally and represent Save the Children externally.

Responsibilities

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
• Lead on the development and implementation of Save the Children’s global child poverty advocacy strategy and relevant work plans, including cash transfers, child-sensitive and shock responsive social protection system strengthening and universal child benefits, based on analysis of trends and actors in line with Save the Children’s priority ambition to strengthen resilience and financial safety nets for millions of children and their families.
• Lead the development of child poverty policy for Save the Children globally, including a focus on cash transfers, child-sensitive and shock responsive social protection and universal child benefits, in close collaboration with the relevant PQI Thematic Director, Humanitarian Team and technical experts across the organization
• Monitor and regularly report on achievement of strategic child poverty advocacy objectives to the Global Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns Steering Group
• Represent Save the Children in relevant internal working groups and meetings
• Promote collaboration and work effectively with key colleagues in other thematic advocacy areas across developed, developing and humanitarian contexts, including advocacy in relation to Save the Children’s Breakthrough ambition on children’s survival, learning and protection and to ensure synergies with our advocacy around child-sensitive and shock responsive social protection as a key climate change adaptation intervention.
• Convene and promote cross-movement engagement applying a local to global approach and champion country-led efforts, including partnership with local actors and support to children’s own actions and advocacy
• Ensure effective communication with external partners by producing clear, coherent and persuasive child poverty policy and advocacy messages and materials for the right audience
• Represent Save the Children and actively engage in inter-agency coordinating groups and external networks on child poverty/social protection at the global level, including the Collaborative Cash Delivery Network
• Coordinate Save the Children’s external engagement and provide support to Save the Children’s leadership to speak on child poverty and represent Save the Children at global meetings, as appropriate
• Contribute to a high-performance Global Policy and Advocacy Team and support the development and implementation of Save the Children advocacy strategies to deliver our priorities and key messages
