Job Summary
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in international relations, political science or other relevant social sciences
- At least 3 years relevant professional experience in research, knowledge management, organizational learning and other related fields.
- A Master’s Degree in a relevant field would be an added advantage.
- Strong research background and experience working with both researchers and policy makers and program managers in the civil society sector.
- Strong written and verbal English and Kiswahili communication skills.
Responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategizing and executing the tools and methodologies for advocacy including campaigning, lobbying, alliance building and networking to improve communities’ access to services.
- Identify diverse ways and means for improving organizational advocacy mechanisms
- Plan and implement collective actions and lobbying initiatives for legal reforms and ground implementation of policies and frameworks initiated by government or project for safe guarding citizen’s legal rights.
- Strategize needs assessment for strengthening advocacy mechanisms so that these become more inclusive, responsive and accountable.
- Coordinate with relevant organizations to improve effectiveness of project interventions
- Manage community-led advocacy planning and ensure the execution of the advocacy strategy in coordination with partners and stakeholders
- Assist the Programs Manager in designing, planning and implementing advocacy strategy and campaigns for INEND.
- Organizing seminars, workshops and trainings/convenings for INEND;
- Assist Program Manager in writing up budgets and take care of logistics.
- Actively participate and represent the organization in various networks and movements to share INEND’s position on various issues after in-house consultation.
- Support the process to form networks with various stakeholders such as development sector donors, NGOs, private sector, research organizations and academic institutions to mobilize their support for sustainable development initiatives.
- Keep tabs on INEND’s research and use the channels of advocacy to facilitate the process of lobbying for policy making/change.
- Identify advocacy needs and formulate and implement advocacy plan and strategies;
- Work closely with the Communication and Partnerships Officer, Capacity Development Officer and the Research and Documentation Officer.
- Assist in preparation of proposals for funding and report writing;
- Perform consistent program monitoring, evaluation, learning, and periodic reporting related to advocacy.
- Any other duties assigned by the Executive Director.
- Building a stronger movement by strengthened skills, knowledge and resources for Sexual and Gender Minorities
- Policy changes for the respect, promotion and protection of the human rights of Sexual and Gender Minorities
- An improved quality in Sexual and Gender Minorities’ programming and access of services.
