Job Summary

Applications are invited from suitably qualified, serving Public Officers in Ministries/Departments/Agencies and Local Governments to fill vacant posts


  1. Supervising the formulation and review  of national veterinary  animal health: policies; laws, regulations and standards to conform with international standards;
  2. Developing programmes for sensitization and creation of awareness in the population on veterinary laws, regulations, standards and consequences of non-compliance by various stakeholders;
  3. Identifying and developing plans for proper use of strategic animal quarantine infrastructure in the country;
  4. Establishing a reliable system for usage of identification and traceability of live animals and their products as related to: animal health, veterinary public health, animal welfare, veterinary professions, quality and safety of animal products;
  5. Supervising animal health, veterinary public health and food safety risk analysis for import/export and internal live animal/animal products movements in the country;
  6. Promoting and regulating the veterinary professional practice in collaboration with Uganda Veterinary Board, animal products’ trade and animal welfare in the country;
  7. Collaborating with national, regional and international organizations on veterinary laws and enforcement issues on Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) measures (animal health and food safety);
  8. Preparing and presenting reports to the supervisor.
  9. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

The Public Service Commission (Uganda)

The Public Service Commission is established under the provisions of Article 165(1) of the 1995 Constitution. In fulfillment of its functions under Article 166, the Commission is required to make a report to Parliament in respect of each year’s performance of its functions. Under Article 166 (4) of the same Constitution, Parliament is required by law to empower the Public Service Commission to make regulations for the effective and efficient performance of its functions. This is in addition to the provisions of Article 251 (1) which empowers the Commission to regulate its own procedure or confer powers or impose duties on any officer or authority of the Government for the purpose of discharging its functions. In light of the above, a draft Public Service Commission Bill has been prepared and submitted to the Cabinet for approval. Currently the Public Service Commission Regulations guide the Commission in the carrying out of its functions in addition to other relevant regulations such as the Standing Orders, Establishment Notices and Circulars that guide the management of the Public Service in general.
