Job Summary

The Role of Internal Audit is to add value and improve operations of the organization by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to control and governance processes.
The Audit Committee of the Board expects the function to be able to provide meaningful insights and unbiased opinions, which add value and improve an organization’s operations.

Responsibilities

Corporate Governance

Enhance the value and efficiency of corporate governance and compliance to processes including effective reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
Third Parties
Assessment of the processes and relations related to dealing with third parties.
Assurance.
Provide an independent, concise and relevant assurance reporting from both internal and external auditors on all key aspects required for informed decision-making.
Regulatory
Ensure a sustainable and effective approach to regulatory compliance by the organization
Operational Effectiveness and Efficiency
Review key organizational processes and assess existing control environment
Evaluate adherence to policies and procedures affecting key business processes
Review effectiveness of key policies and procedures
Ethics & Integrity of the Organization
Provide assurance on applicable preventative and detective controls.
Conduct third-party audits
Drive continuous improvement through control-testing
Third-party Relationships
Review third-party engagement processes including identification, due diligence, selection, on-boarding processes and governance.
Evaluate contract management processes
Align regulatory developments to related third parties
Assess third-party compliance with the organization’s information security standards.
Strategic alignment of the organization’s operations
Assess if resources are being allocated towards he most important objectives and initiatives of the organization.
Align Internal Audit with the company’s strategy
IT Governance
Review the organization’s data management (security, storage, usage, IT applications and infrastructure)
Review the organization’s IT governance structure
Assess the strategic alignment between business and IT
Organization-wide initiatives/projects
Provide independent assurance over project setup/monitoring for large company-wide implementation.

All these factors take into consideration:
Audit engagements are appropriately scheduled and conducted
Timely and insightful reports on the results of audit engagements, including the status of remediation of identified deficiencies to senior management and the Audit Committee.
A balanced evaluation of audit results and recommendations for improvement of internal controls and operating procedures.
Insightful analysis to senior management about trends in the organization, important developments in systems and controls, and opportunities for improvement.
Continuous knowledge development regarding sector’s rules, regulations, best practices, tools, techniques and performance standards.

Education requirements
A bachelor’s degree in commerce or equivalent from a recognized university.
MBA from a recognized university is an added advantage.
A certified Public Accountant CPA (K) or its equivalent.
Auditing qualifications such as CISA or CIA
Preferred Work Experience
12 (Twelve) years’ experience in internal Audit function or in a professional audit firm, 5 (Five) of which should be at Head level or above.
A thorough knowledge of accounting procedures
Personal attributes
Strong reporting and writing skills.
Sound knowledge of audit principles and techniques.Ability to work in high pressure environment and multi-task.

Required languages: English (Spoken: fluent | Written: fluent)
