The Role
The Lishe Living Research Specialist’s key objective is to understand our consumers’ and patients’ health needs, and to translate scientific data into nutrition solutions that they can understand and use effectively. The position requires someone who can manage the Lishe Living health knowledge, and its transfer into the Lishe Living app, specialised training workshops and communications material. The scientist’s food and nutrition evaluation must contribute to the knowledge of prevention and management of non-communicable (chronic) diseases.

Scope of work
This role cuts across research, marketing and project management. We need specialists who can provide scientific and marketing support for our nutrition management app. As one of the scientists, you’ll be expected to carry out scientific research and expand the Lishe Living food and nutrition knowledge database, and to document nutritional facts (and special attributes) of African foods.
As the company expands into nutraceutical branding, you will have to perform food product research, and assist the formulation team in order to ensure the products meet Lishe Living’s food and nutrition standards. You must have the passion to substantiate claims of the link between food, nutrition and chronic diseases management, and to create/verify nutrition formulas to effectively manage these diseases. The formulas must be compliant with registration requirements for local and international markets. You must also be able to read and edit health-related articles written by doctors and nutritionists.


Responsibilities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES 

  1. Ability to manage the Lishe Living’s health & nutrition component, while working in partnership with doctors and other nutritionists (including planning and progress tracking)
  2. Ability to provide counsel on food science and nutrition, to interpret food and nutrition related legislation, and apply these in proposal development and product formulation
  3. Ability to evaluate scientific research on food/nutrition research for chronic diseases in order to generate new and innovative ways to manage health & well being
  4. Ability to lead and support new food product ideas based on nutritional formulas
  5. Knowledge of food science, nutrition science, clinical nutrition or medical science
  6. Skills: Creativity and willingness to brain storm and develop proposals for nutrition and dietary services programs for various patient groups
  7. Skills: Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a team of doctors and bio-chemists to achieve Lishe Living’s goals
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. BSc. in Biochemistry, Medicine, Food Science OR Nutrition, Masters is a plus
  2. Passionate about the impact of food and nutrition on health and wellbeing 
  3. Strong research and writing skills
  4. Willing to commit to the success of a start-up, and work long hours in meeting deadlines for the launch.
  5. Interested in a career of product development in nutraceuticals
