Job Summary

Applications are invited from suitably qualified, serving Public Officers in Ministries/Departments/Agencies and Local Governments to fill vacant posts


Responsibilities

  1. Initiating and implementing policies, laws, standards, plans and strategies for sustainable exploitation of natural fisheries resources in the Country;
  2. Monitoring and evaluating the production and productivity of the natural fisheries resources in Uganda;
  3. Restocking lakes and rivers with appropriate fish species and breeds for sustainable natural fisheries production;
  4. Building capacity at all levels for fisheries management and development;
  5. Identifying and providing guidance on management of fish breeding and nursery areas;
  6. Providing support to Beach Management Units (BMU) in monitoring, control and surveillance activities for the safety of fisheries resources;
  7. Providing technical support and guidance to different stakeholders on the use of appropriate fish harvesting technologies and gears;
  8. Conducting periodic catch assessment and frame surveys on trade in natural fisheries resources so as to inform the planning and decision making process for natural fisheries resources;
  9. Establishing, operationalizing and maintaining an up-to-date National Database on the natural fisheries resources;
  10. Controlling aquatic weeds on affected water bodies for the safety of natural fisheries resources;
  11. Establishing and maintaining collaborative linkages with neighboring countries with regard to management of trans-boundary natural fisheries resources;
  12. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

The Public Service Commission (Uganda)

The Public Service Commission is established under the provisions of Article 165(1) of the 1995 Constitution. In fulfillment of its functions under Article 166, the Commission is required to make a report to Parliament in respect of each year’s performance of its functions. Under Article 166 (4) of the same Constitution, Parliament is required by law to empower the Public Service Commission to make regulations for the effective and efficient performance of its functions. This is in addition to the provisions of Article 251 (1) which empowers the Commission to regulate its own procedure or confer powers or impose duties on any officer or authority of the Government for the purpose of discharging its functions. In light of the above, a draft Public Service Commission Bill has been prepared and submitted to the Cabinet for approval. Currently the Public Service Commission Regulations guide the Commission in the carrying out of its functions in addition to other relevant regulations such as the Standing Orders, Establishment Notices and Circulars that guide the management of the Public Service in general.
