Job Summary

This is a leadership role with whole school responsibility for the development of Academy’s teaching and learning quality. Pedagogical development and staff skill development are important features of this role.


Responsibilities

  1. Provide direction for and monitor the review and development of the K-12 curriculum plan, its coordination and its application.
  2. Provide leadership in the development of academic policies and practices (including curriculum assessment, structuring academic program, scheduling and reporting) that are consistent with the Academy’s goals and values and the use of data generated to inform the institutional development of the Academy.
  3. Provide support to the Academy’s curriculum teams to ensure the application of programme principles and integration of the AK strands.
  4. Advise on the production of academic policy, programme and course information details for all levels of the Academy. Negotiate the formulation of a professional development plan for the Academy and direct its implementation in line with the Academy’s network professional development goals and the specific needs of the Academy staff.
  5. Advise on programmes that integrate student’s experiences outside the classroom with the Academy’s educational mission.
  6. Strong commitment to residential education and to embracing the Academy’s mission and priorities; appreciation of and support for the Academy’s culture of intellectual engagement and ability to help students manage its pressures, working effectively with members of the teaching staff to enable each student to succeed.
  7. Provide support in the recruitment of faculty.
  8. Provide support to admissions in student assessments.
  9. Collaborate with other academies within the network and with A.U for Pedagogical development.
  10. Oversee the supervision and appraisal for growth (AfG) of all Senior School staff.
  11. Plan professional development of all Senior School staff in collaboration with the Senior School Principal.
  12. In collaboration with other members of the SLT, provide leadership in the development of academic policies and practices (curriculum, language assessment, special educational needs, academic honesty) that are consistent with both the Academy’s goals and values and the requirements of the IB.
  13. A passion for education and strong empathy for teachers as learners.
As a “Lead Teacher”:
  1. Lead the elaboration and delivery of a coherent and solid curriculum in area(s) of specialization, including the identification of teaching and other resources and the preparation of a teacher training/induction programme.
  2. Contribute to the Academy’s Professional Development Centre’s (PDC) outreach programme.
  3. Model best practice in education by teaching in either the MYP and/or DP.
