Job Summary

● Sanivation has been working in East Africa for the past 5 years developing an innovative model for waste-to-energy sanitation services.
● We are a fast-growing startup at the cutting-edge of bringing together partners to deploy innovative sanitation infrastructure projects that improve local economies in East Africa
● Sanivation has developed strong relationships with national and county governments, water utilities, national regulators, and development finance institutions.

• Currently recruiting for a Director of Business Development to oversee regional expansion of securing contracts and responding to request for proposals for fecal sludge treatment plants and fecal sludge management services.

Role Overview

The Director of Business Development will lead Sanivation’s business capture process with development institutions. This role will lead the strategy of relationship development among funders and consortium partners, value proposition refinement, and RFP capture and response to ultimately propel regional growth. This role will be directly responsible for leading the Sanivation team to new cities and new partnerships.
This role will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and work closely on the company’s growth strategy. In addition to recruiting and managing their own team, this role will work alongside the Partnerships, Fundraising and Project Development teams to win projects.


  • Strategic planning and management: Creating a strategy for relationship development among prospective project funders. Operationalizing monitoring mechanisms to track and share internal and external progress updates of where projects are in the business development funnel. Evaluating regional expansion.
  • Project funding and RFP response: Developing key partnerships at the funding organization and prospective consortium partners. Refining external-facing templates (Capabilities statement, Project proposal frameworks), and oversee RFP response to win waste management projects
  • Product Packaging and Capture: Support on packaging newly developed products into formal product offerings for local governments and development funders
  • Team collaboration and management: Proactively collaborate with other functional areas to refine the business development processes to be fluid and replicable. Actively manage and oversee the results of the Partnership team.
Experience Required

  • 4+ years at one of the following:
  1. Development organization with growing experience on the business development teams, including leading the RFP capture and response process
  2. Leading a company’s B2B sales process, managing a sales pipeline of greater than $10M
  • 2+ years of experience in project management and leading a team of three or more.
  • Strong communicator and existing networks among development finance institutions

Job Requirements

Required education: Bachelor's degree
Required relevant work experience: 7 years
Required languages: English (Spoken: fluent | Written: fluent)
