The Africa Clean Energy (ACE) Technical Assistance Facility (TAF) programme is funded by the UK Government - Department for International Development (DFID). The 4-year programme aims to catalyse a market-based approach for private sector delivery of renewable energy electrification technologies, with a focus on high quality Stand Alone Solar (SAS) systems. This will lead to improved access to modern energy services for people and communities in 14 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), with an emphasis on vulnerable rural communities and marginalised groups. These countries are Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Additionally, the programme has been designed to follow up on DFID Energy Africa Compacts with activities tailored to support policy reform and identify gaps, to ensure buy-in and commitments made in the Compacts. ACE -TAF aims to complement government, private sector and donor initiatives to overcome many of the barriers preventing the development of markets for high quality SAS systems.
