Job Summary

Cytonn Investments is an independent investments management firm, with offices in Nairobi - Kenya and D.C. Metro - U.S. We are primarily focused on offering alternative investment solutions to global and local institutional investors, individual high net-worth investors, and diaspora investors interested in the East-African region.

Our investments are in real estate and private equity. Real estate investments are made through our development affiliate, Cytonn Real Estate, where we currently have over Kshs. 82 billion (USD 820 mn) of projects under mandate across ten projects. In private equity, we invest in banking, insurance, education, hospitality and technology. Our financial services investments in Sub Saharan Africa are made through our Cytonn Financial Services Fund (CFSF) through which we are the 6th largest shareholder in NIC Bank in Kenya. Investments in education and hospitality are made through Cytonn Education Services and Cytonn Hospitality, respectively.
Reporting to the Head of Academic Affairs, the Head of Department will formulate, implement, supervise and evaluate policy guidelines on planning, and management of all activities, academic and otherwise in all our college campuses and effectively oversee the operations of all CIE’s campuses, so as to ensure achievement of academic quality in line with the expectations of all the stakeholders;


  1. Supporting and providing academic leadership in the department;
  2. In consultation with the Head of Academic Affairs and other Head of Departments, harmonize departmental academic timetable and fairly distribute the workload to all lecturers;
  3. Receiving and approving the lecturers’ schemes of work at the beginning of the semester for approval by the Head of Academic Affairs and the Principal of the College;
  4. Receiving and analyzing records of work covered against the schemes of work on bi-weekly basis;
  5. Supervising the curriculum implementation through the semester is within the stipulated time;
  6. Ensuring that students are well grounded in practical and entrepreneurial experiences in line with the department’s offering;
  7. Ensuring that the department is well staffed, advising management on need of additional staff and following up on staff performance;
  8. Ensuring timely attachments and work induction opportunities for students;
  9. Preparing budgets for the department and monitoring and reporting on the department’s expenditure;
  10. Monitoring enrolment of new students to the department and resumption of continuing students;
  11. Ensuring timely attachments and work induction opportunities for students;
  12. Tracking and monitoring students’ enrolment, resumption after holidays, class attendance, and dropout rates and providing recommendation to the management on areas where action needs to be taken;
  13. Supervising the administration of Continuous Assessment Tests (CATS), Mock exams and other examinations;
  14. Analyzing examination results and developing mechanisms of improving the performance in the department;
  15. Tracking the academic performance of students and identifying the underachieving students with the view of creating and implementing intervention measures;
  16. Guiding students on the deadlines, fees and procedure for registration for both internal and external examinations;
  17. Effective management of all staff in the department, plus other staff as delegated to the department including monitoring their class attendance;
  18. Holding and minuting regular departmental meetings with the students and the staff and solve any student complaints that may arise;
  19. Taking part in the recruitment, selection and orientation of new staff for the department;
  20. Organizing field academic trips to acquaint the students with the practical experiences in their respective industry;
  21. Teach in your area of specialization;
  22. Any other duties as may be prescribed from time to time.
