Qualifications & Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Building Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields. A master's degree would be advantageous.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ cognate experience with proven Project Engineering/Project Management experience.
  • Membership of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Project Management Professional (PMP), or relevant professional bodies.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or Certified Plant Engineer (CPE) are highly desirable.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for asset tracking and work order management.
  • Strong track record of successfully completed projects in the maintenance and facility management profession.

  • The Utility Manager will be responsible for overseeing the efficient operation and maintenance of utility systems within the university campus.
  • This includes managing the campus' electrical, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), water supply, and other utility systems..

He/she is expected to:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of utility systems, including scheduling maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring uninterrupted service to campus facilities.
  • Develop and implement maintenance plans to ensure the reliability and longevity of utility infrastructure, including preventive maintenance schedules and equipment inspections.
  • Continuously monitor utility systems performance and identify opportunities for optimization, such as adjusting equipment settings for energy efficiency, optimizing water flow rates, or implementing load shedding strategies to reduce peak demand.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for utility system failures or performance issues, utilizing diagnostic tools, equipment readings, and historical data to identify root causes and implement corrective actions promptly.
  • Oversee emergency repair efforts for critical utility infrastructure failures, coordinating with internal teams, external contractors, and equipment suppliers to expedite repairs and restore service quickly while prioritizing safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Reviewing utilities consumption, monitoring maintenance costs, and developing strategies for optimizing expenses while ensuring high-quality work.
  • Implement energy conservation measures and demand-side management strategies to reduce campus energy consumption and operating costs. This may involve conducting energy audits, implementing lighting retrofits, and optimizing HVAC scheduling.
