Job Summary

EducationApplicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent
Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.Preferred Area of Study:Urban Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Urban Geography and GIS.

LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in English is required.

Responsibilities

ResponsibilitiesDaily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.Under the Supervision of the Chief, Planning Finance and Economy Section the intern will:
- Support the development of the technical and normative outputs of the Planning, Finance and Economy Section by assisting in gathering data, analyzing, contributing to preparation of reports and technical documents, preparation of presentations and other dissemination materials.
- Support the development of new activities and projects related to urban regeneration.
- Assist in the definition and implementation of the Nairobi River Regeneration Initiative, such as supporting the development of the Nairobi River Profile, documentation of activities and gathering of good practices on urban river regeneration and creative districts.
- Support the organization of meetings, preparation of workshops, charrettes and site visits.
- Document proceedings from the workshops, meetings and stakeholder engagements.
- Assist in the development of the Nairobi River spatial strategy, policy documents, guidelines, information materials and presentations through review of relevant documents, drafting and commenting on documents, and assisting in producing information materials and presentations.
- Support the team in the development of situational analyses reports, generate maps, plans, and conceptual and detailed designs for Nairobi River and associated public space.
- Update and maintain records of the Urban Regeneration work being undertaken by UN-Habitat and partners in Nairobi.
- Support the coordination team of the Nairobi River Regeneration Initiative liaising with other branches, sections, regional office and country team within UN-Habitat.
- Familiarize oneself with the United Nations.
- Familiarize oneself with social inclusion, human rights, urban regeneration, urban planning, urban environmental issues and public space development.
- Participate in the implementation of a high-impact and transformative project.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
