Job Summary

This job opening is being issued for a position in the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) in Nairobi.

OIOS is an independent office reporting to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly. The Investigations Division (ID) follows up on reports of possible violations of rules or regulations, mismanagement, misconduct, waste of resources, sexual harassment, or abuse of authority.
The incumbent will report to the Chief of Section in Nairobi. The incumbent will be required to travel to remote locations, at times for extended periods, to manage and conduct investigations.


Within delegated authority, the Investigator will be responsible for the following duties:

-Plans, organizes, conducts and manages investigations of alleged misconduct, malfeasance, mismanagement, fraud, corruption, waste of resources, sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA), sexual harassment and other gender based issues, or alleged violations of UN Rules, Regulations and pertinent administrative issuances;
-Leads and supervises a team or teams of investigators; coordinates and facilitates investigative activities of team members;
-Defines the parameters and timetable of investigations; decides on the investigative tools to be employed; ensures that established procedures and policies are complied with;
-Conducts interviews and obtains statements; analyses information;
-Gathers evidence; prepares testimony for tribunals, obtains and reviews pertinent documentation; conducts interviews and takes statements; analyses facts, determines findings and formulates recommended corrective measures and related disciplinary and jurisdictional actions;
-Prepares complete and concise investigation reports and other communications; reviews reports and other written submissions of his/her subordinates;
-Manages resources and logistics of the Investigative Unit at the duty station, evaluates performance of supervisees;
-Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve Organizational goals, in accordance with ID/OIOS standard operating procedures and in compliance with Organizational regulations and rules.
