Job Summary

A leading Micro-Finance Company based in Nairobi that offers personal loan to permanently employed Civil servants is seeking to recruit a Legal Compliance Officer who will responsible for rendering strategic and operational advice on the legal impact of management decisions. He/she will also support the business in ensuring that the internal and external regulatory environment is strictly adhered to. The ideal candidate Must have prior working experience in the Financial Service sector.
  • Must have a Master degree and a relevant Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 5 years’ experience, 3 years of which have been in a similar role in a highly regulated
  • A sound understanding of Compliance programs and regulations, including Fraud Prevention, Anti-Mon
  • Must be able to thrive under pressure.
  • Must be professional and a person of high integrity.
  • Must be knowledgeable on relevant legislation
  • Excellent communication skills and engaging personality
  • The ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships


  • Responsible for advising the Board and Senior Management on the control and measurement of risks,
  • Serve on the central LRC committee and act as liaison between that and in-country executive
  • Rendering of strategic and operational advice on the legal impact of decisions
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant Acts and circulars from external stakeholders 
  • Responsible specifically for Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Compliance
  • Responsible for the overall organizational KYC “Know Your Customer” Policy and execution
  • Preparing and drafting legal documents if necessary
  • Acting on behalf of the Company in contentious legal matters and representing the Company in court
  • Organizing further contact with legal practitioners to negotiate work, contracts and to gather
  • Supporting the activities of recovery closely with the Collections Team, where necessary
  • Following up on external litigation firms where applicable

Job Requirements

Required education: Post-graduate education
Required relevant work experience: 5 years
Required languages: English (Spoken: fluent | Written: fluent)
