Job Summary

To support the clinical facilitation of students nurses, clinical officers and interns. Build the capacity of health workers in the hospital to provide bed-side teaching and implement competency based learning.
Support the roll-out of the national Nursing and Midwifery Curriculum by coaching tutors in the implementation and advising on additional adolescent friendly service provision and early essential newborn care.


Responsibilities

  1. Strengthen health workers at the Neonatal Unit in the delivery of specialised neonatal care through on-the-job training.
  2. Support the improvement of neonatal referral pathways by coaching health workers and community health workers in new-born care.
  3. Train trainers and mentors in delivering Early Essential New-born Care (EENC) training to Health Centers (HCs) in Moroto and Napak.
  4. Consult Health centers, Matany School of Nursing and Community Based organizations (CBOs) on integrating the delivery of EENC in their strategies.
  5. Support health workers in data collection, reporting and analysing
  6. Implement community support systems, such as antenatal or emergency plans.
  7. Provide on-the-job training to nurses, midwives, medical officers and interns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and surrounding units on the management of new-born health, including on fluid and electrolyte management, dangers signs, Newborn Individualized Care and Assessment program (nidcap).
  8. Strengthen skills of medical officers and interns in the management of new-born care, with the introduction of accompanied nurse-doctor ward rounds and feedback to caregiver.
  9. Increase skills amongst health workers in the NICU in obtaining medical history, patient rapports and hand-over.
  10. Strengthen health workers skills in Kangaroo Mother Care, newborn resuscitation and other essential emergency newborn care interventions through roll-out of EENC training.
  11. Provide advice to hospital management on policy matters on standards of care, improvement programmes and clinical facilitation of student health workers.
  12. Provide guest lectures when needed and where possible in School of Nursing and Midwifery.
  13. Compile and share activity and monthly reports with the supervisor (s)
