Responsibilities

  1. To ensure optimum operation of the UCU network infrastructure including the main campus data and voice network, the UCU Network Operating Centre (NOC), Network Backbone, all Local Area Networks (LANs) at UCU, Regional Colleges and Study Centers.
  2. To ensure reliable, adequate and cost-effective interconnection (voice and data) between the UCU main campus and other study centers.
  3. To ensure very reliable and stable functioning of the Network Operating Center (NOC) at UCU main campus.
  4. To be responsible for all technical work relating to UCU Wide-Area Network (WAN) operation and related equipments.
  5. To ensure the efficient access to the Internet at all times for all campus.
  6. To keep track of all technology developments relevant to all components of a modern WAN and to regularly provide the Director of UIS with information and advice on such changes for effective planning and decision making.
  7. To liaise with service providers on the technical aspect of the services they provide to the University and advise the Technical Manager where necessary.
  8. To prepare a monthly report on infrastructure activities to the Technical Manager
  9. To carry out any other work as assigned by lawful University authorities from time to time.
  10. Install, configure, maintain/administer network Equipment largely Cisco
  11. Maintains proper documentation of Network Structure, Network Assets, Network problems and resolution for future reference.
  12. Monitors Network performance and implements performance tuning.
  13. Provide periodic updates on the state of the Network to the Technical Manager.
  14. Any other official duties assigned by the line supervisor from time to time.
