Alliance Forum for Development-AFOD Uganda is a non-profit, non-governmental organization working with humanitarian and development partners to address the needs of conflict affected population, rural and urban poor communities in Uganda to address their real needs in areas of health, nutrition, food security and livelihoods, environmental health, protection and psychosocial support, and research.

Main job summary:
Under the direct supervision of Nutrition Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for the implementation, technical guidance and quality of the nutrition program working in close collaboration with the nutrition focal persons.

Qualification/Required competencies

  • Nutrition professional with a relative degree in Nutrition or Public Health Nutrition and significant experience in nutrition in emergencies

  • At least five years professional experience in nutrition IMAM (CMAM) programs
  • Emergencies or working in refuge programmes previously preferred
  • Nutrition emergency assessments or surveys preferred
  • Working in a multi-cultural setting

  1. Providing technical supervision and support to AFOD Uganda’s Nutrition programming activities;
  2. Ensuring that nutrition programs utilize standardized protocols, policies and guidelines, as prescribed by the Ministry of Health and WHO/UNICEF/WFP;
  3. Ensuring that all nutrition activities are consistent with established best practices;
  4. Organizing orientation and refresher training for the MCH staff on the importance of integrating IMAM/CMAM in improving coverage and quality of nutrition intervention;
  5. Ensuring IMAM/CMAM training is conducted for all the sites supported;
  6. Collecting baseline survey data from all health facilities in the settlement areas including from the host;
  7. Overseeing the collection and timely reporting of data and statistics for all nutrition programs in line with guidelines and standards and according to internal and donor requirements;
  8. Organizing and supervise quarterly mass community MUAC screening and ensure referral done in line with guidelines and standard requirements;
  9. Ensuring all moderately malnourished children 6-59months and PLW are enrolled on TSFP for treatment;
  10. Ensuring all MCHN eligible beneficiaries are registered, issued ration cards and profiled at all facilities;
  11. Ensuring appropriate storage, handling and distribution of fortified blended foods (FBFs) to the MCHN and TSFP beneficiaries;
  12. Reporting immediately any losses or damage or spoilage of FBIs stored at the health facilities for appropriate action;
  13. Ensuring the ongoing capacity building of nutrition teams through supporting on-site training and mentorship and ensuring staff performance evaluations and individual development plans for assuring quality of the programme;
  14. Ensuring appropriate support to the field bases by regular visits, and replacement of staff if needed;
  15. Collaborating with the health, WASH teams, Food Security teams to ensure a holistic approach in line with AFOD’s Program Framework principles;
  16. Performing any other duties that may be assigned.
