Job Summary

ABOUT LYNK:
Lynk is a startup that builds technology to connect blue collar workers in Kenya - from carpenters to cleaners - to jobs. Our suite of products seeks to satisfy a breadth of consumer needs, which provide multiple channels to increase incomes for workers in our system:
  • Lynk: A marketplace product enabling customers to request services or order ready-to-buy services in over 50 categories from cleaners, to masseuses, to plumbers, and tailors.
  • Lynk Projects: A turnkey construction firm, providing design and management services in fitout and construction projects, delivered by Pros on the Lynk platform
  • Lynk for Business: Maintenance, facilities management, and project management services for business clients delivered by Lynk Pros
A bit about the role:
As the Quality Control Associate, you will be responsible for conducting quality control on jobs done by fundis, particularly furniture makers, and supporting other blue-collar professionals to thrive on the Lynk platform. Most of your day will be spent in the field working with fundis, customers, and material suppliers. You will facilitate the relationship between fundis and customers and work to ensure we deliver high-quality products that satisfy the customer's needs.

A bit about you:
Have exceptionally high standards, and know how to work with fundis to get them to work with quality and speed. You are strict, willing to be tough, and don’t accept ‘ok’ as good enough, but can also use softer support, coaching, and training approach where required. You are an independent operator who can take instruction and use your experience and knowledge to work efficiently and provide the best solutions to potential problems. You have great organizational skills and are able to effectively manage a variety of tasks.
Successful candidates will have all or most of these qualifications:
  • Accreditation from a TVET school in carpentry and joinery
  • 2-5 years experience in furniture making and joinery
  • Demonstrated track record in job management and supervision
  • Great communication skills
  • Licensed to drive a motorbike in Kenya
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Knowledge of standard market prices and availability of construction materials
  • Experience in the Kenyan furniture market
  • Ability to use Google Calendar, Documents, and Spreadsheets

Responsibilities

Field quality control
  • Conducting site visits to assess the quality of physical products
  • Conducting spot checks on service delivery
  • Utilizing the provided QC checklist to scrutinize furniture production
  • Project managing high value or high-risk jobs
  • Interviewing and speaking with customers to assess the quality
Pro Engagement
  • Building positive and respectful relationships with Pros
  • Providing coaching to Pros in the field on best practices to meet the QC guidelines
  • Support vetting of furniture makers and other Pros
  • Identify new sources for recruiting Pros and vetting methods
  • Conducting debrief meetings with those being removed from the system
Customer engagement
  • Engaging with customers, where required, to understand requirements and deal with jobs going wrong
  • Keeping track of all ongoing high-risk jobs, and providing updates to Job Satisfaction and/or clients where required
  • Upselling Lynk services to customers
Material Supply
  • Source and purchase small items urgently needed for the workshop
  • Use your experience of the market and best judgment to independently determine the best options and strategies to satisfy workshop needs
Generating Reports
  • Creating QC reports on a quarterly basis to evaluate the work of Pros in the field
  • Outlining and reporting critical QC errors and identifying possible solutions

Job Requirements

Required education: Bachelor's degree
