Job Summary

Assess the needs and build the technical (and operational) capacity of instructors (and staff) and the overall organisation within the vocational training institute so they can deliver quality, market relevant, entrepreneurial and work readiness skills training and services; so the local population have increased preparedness for employment in the oil and gas and related sectors;


Responsibilities

  1. Conduct an assessment of the organisational and technical capacity of partner VTI and jointly with VTI develop a capacity building plan
  2. Lead implementation of the capacity building plan (directly through on-the-job training, coaching and mentoring as well as identifying appropriate resource person(s) within project team or external resource persons as needed)
  3. Particular focus on providing training and coaching to build the capacity VTI instructors towards to deliver work readiness, entrepreneurship and Health Safety Security and Environment training; review and adapt training curricula and modules; provide post training support, apprenticeships and mentorship; follow-up and monitor former graduates; Integrate work readiness and entrepreneurship into skills training
  4. Bring in and adapt international best practices on work readiness design, capacity and implementation
  5. With VSO staff, support partner VTI to complete City and Guilds (C&G) Centre Approval and Qualification Approval forms and the audit process for selected training course(s)
  6. In coordination with VSO volunteers: Organizational Development Specialist; Vocational Training Specialist and VSO staff, build the capacity of the partner VTI in particular areas of expertise particularly towards gaining C&G accreditation
  7. Strengthen capacity of partner VTI to monitor and maintain C&G accreditation status including developing and actualising Business plan towards long term sustainability
  8. In coordination with VSO volunteer Gender Advisor, support partner VTI to promote inclusion by use of VSO Gender and Disability Tool kits
  9. In coordination with VSO volunteer Private Sector Specialist support partner VTI to strengthen the linkages with private sector especially in the Oil and Gas related sectors
  10. With project team support the targeted VTIs to form a network; for sharing best practices; enhancing visibility and reputation

Internal Reporting:
  1. Submit monthly plans and reports to VTI partner as well as VSO Project Manager.
  2. Document and share successes and case stories, best practices and lessons learnt – at least 1 success/lessons learnt per month and 3 case stories annually
  3. Input into quarterly and annual donor reports as needed
  4. Participate in SCOPE project planning and review meetings
  5. Jointly with other VSO volunteers identifying and sharing areas of good practice across the VTI partners
