For appointment to this grade, one must:

  1. Must possess Bachelor Degree in Counselling, Social Sciences, Education or its equivalent from a recognized University.
  2. Be a member of a counsellors’ body such as Kenya Counselors and Psychologists Association or Kenya Universities Psychologists and Counsellors Association.
  3. Have professional/discipline specific knowledge of theory and techniques in a specialized field, or knowledge of a number of fields acquired through tertiary education and /or considerable experience.
  4. Be computer proficient and conversant with use of an ERP system.
  5. Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity.

The technical staff are responsible for coordination of technical activities in the department to enable students acquire practical skills by ensuring that all practical sessions are done as scheduled.

Key duties and responsibilities entail assisting in:

  • Maintaining an updated inventory of consumables and non-consumables to ensure resources needed are well captured and accounted for.
  • Ensuring that the laboratory equipment and reagents are maintained at good levels for the smooth learning throughout the year.
  • Ensuring that the materials required in the laboratory requested at the right time through the senior technologist.
  • Maintaining the laboratory equipment and records hence facilitating the training of the student attendance during practical sessions by the relevant lectures.
  • Providing a conducive and safe working environment in the laboratory in conformity with the stipulated Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Assisting in conducting practicals in relevant disciplines.
  • Carrying out any other duties as assigned by the Principal Technologist.

Job Specifications

The key duties and responsibilities entail assisting in:

  1. Handling students’ issues concerning their social life by offering guidance and counselling in order to correct their undesirable behaviors.
  2. Conducting guidance and counselling sessions in order to address arising social issues such as misuse of drugs as a preventive measure and stopping further addiction to drugs.
  3. Organizing talks for students in areas already identified as need areas through sourcing for relevant speakers to address and offer public lectures to students so as to equip them with the relevant knowledge and information for more informed decisions.
  4. Maintaining consistent follow-up with the students in order to see to it that the positive change in behavior obtained is sustained and factors that would lead to re-occurrence of the helped issue are dealt with.
  5. Referring students who require specific attention to the appropriate service provider such as drug addicts who require rehabilitation services so as to exhaustively assist the students recover from the maladjustment.
  6. Providing spiritual guidance to students
