The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) is the apex body of the private sector in Kenya, established to drive economic development through year on year improvements in the business environment, by addressing cross cutting business issues, driving investments and addressing socio-economic issues with partners. KEPSA brings together business associations, corporate bodies, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups to speak in one voice, working closely with Government and other stakeholders through structured Public Private Dialogue (PPD) platforms and other engagement mechanisms.
Background
The Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Kenya, contribute approximately 40% of the GDP with the majority falling in the informal sector. MSMEs in Kenya are engines of economic growth and development, research suggests that MSMEs account for over 80% of firms in Kenya, create jobs, contribute to GDP, aid industrial development, satisfy local demand for services, innovate and support large firms with inputs and services.
In this regard, KEPSA is working on an upcoming project to support the Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) by increasing access to affordable and appropriate finance for micro and small businesses, drive the change in behavior of entrepreneurs by catalyzing enterprise level changes that will enable MSEs to attain resilience, grow and ultimately transform work opportunities, Deepening the ecosystem of business development services
targeting MSEs, Increasing the options available to youth entrepreneurs by increasing access to new and more lucrative market options, and; Strengthen the ecosystem within which MSEs operate.
In order to achieve this, KEPSA wishes to engage a Communication and Digital Media Officer for five-year contract to support with digital communication activities aimed at increasing the visibility and impact of the project.
Objective of the Role
KEPSA seeks to recruit a suitable Communication & Digital Media Officer who will be the anchor of all Project internal and external marketing and communications. He/she will be responsible to provide technical support on all marketing and communications activities. The Communication and Digital Media Officer will report to the Head of SME Development.

Develop a unified project communications strategy and implementation plan;
Develop communication strategy to communicate to different partners including segmenting and identifying the priority stakeholders and players to target;
Support external programmatic marketing campaign activities to drive project visibility;
Work with KEPSA communication team to develop and execute communications and marketing materials, including: publication design, infographics, data visualizations, social media tiles, web graphics and development, and eNewsletter design.
Support in maintaining and updating website and social media platforms, including updating graphics, preparing contents for web, properly placing content and general troubleshooting both technical and content problems.
Design digital media campaigns and associated digital content aligned with the project goals.
Prepare press releases, statements, presentations, briefs, clear OPEDs and speeches for the Project as may be required;
Develop a good working relationship with the media to allow organizing and booking interviews on TV and Radio featuring critical stakeholders to promote project and provide them with a brief both verbal and written before and after the project events to ensure they report accurate information;
Maintain communication and public relations databases, including tracking communication and public relations analysis and performance;
Work with KEPSA PR Agency to provide technical guidance and leadership on the planning and management of public events, project advertising and publicity materials and pronouncements to ensure proper management of information;
Use technical and typographic skills to arrange and style reports, marketing materials, web content and conference signage.
Carry design and web projects from concept to completion while adhering to strict program brand standards and ensuring production timelines are met.
Develop content, craft narratives and manage project impact or success stories for the project
Monitor trends in graphic design, digital content, data visualization and web strategy.
Determine and monitor effective benchmarks for measuring success metrics.
Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly or any other periodical updates or reports as may be required;
Undertake any other tasks as required and commensurate with the level of this position that are related to the success of this program.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
A relevant degree level qualification in Communications and Digital Media
Minimum 5 years’ experience in running communications, social media and digital marketing campaigns
Excellent communication skills
Professional experience in managing social media sites, online marketing, monitoring tools and working with online content management systems
Website management experience
Ability to create photography, graphics and video content for online channels
Capability of working independently and as part of a team
Ability to think creatively and innovatively
Proficiency in MS packages e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. and experience working with Google Analytics, Google AdWords, Search Engine Optimization, E-mail marketing tools, Video and Photo Editing softwares.
