Overall purpose of the Role
The successful candidate will report to the Global Head of Finance and will be an integral member of the Medtronic LABS Finance and Operations team. The candidate will provide guidance and demonstrate advanced knowledge in the accounting and finance activities associated with technical accounting matters, including, but not limited to reporting, revenue recognition, forecasting/modeling, inventory/cost accounting, and financial statement creation. They will be a key business partner to the LABS Africa team - effectively supporting, advising and influencing business partners at all levels within the organization.

Overall purpose of the Role

Responsible for the adherence to and communication of accounting and auditing policies and procedures and internal controls; maintains or oversees the control of accounts and records in such areas as disbursements, expenses, tax payments and income
Designs, modifies, installs, and/or maintains accounting systems to ensure an adequate recognition of financial transactions, regular collaboration with LABS business process solutions partner
Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare internal and external financial reports (management and statutory); prepares and consolidates financial statements (balance sheet, profit and loss, cash flow), and other accounting schedules and reports
Supports month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial close through completion and accumulation of various reports and schedules
Supports and/or leads various LABS special projects associated with a variety of initiatives based on the need of the business, which will likely be cross-functional in nature. For assigned special projects, prepares reports of findings and recommendations for management and partners
Supports statutory and management audit fieldwork, including gathering of documents required for testing
Prepares and reports progress of programs, including both financial spend and patient outcomes/impact; regular internal reporting to track programs, and may include external stakeholder reporting
Standard Qualifications:
In order to be considered for this position, the following qualifications must be evident on your resume:
Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
Years of Experience: 5+ Years of varied Accounting, Finance and Analysis Experience
Specialized Knowledge Required: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA)
Desired Qualifications
CPA, MBA or MSc in Finance & Accounting
Sound understanding of accounting principles (US GAAP/International standards)
Exceptional performer with high degree of self-motivation
Agile and ability to multi-task and manage several projects simultaneously while appropriately prioritizing
Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with and influence all levels of leadership and executive management
Demonstrated experience supporting programmatic reporting
Strong oral and written communication skills (English)
Demonstration of excellent judgment and decision making
Demonstrated ability to manage to tight deadlines, along with flexibility to changing priorities
Strong quantitative analytical skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Excel & PowerPoint) and with financial applications (SAP, Oracle, Hyperion).
Flexibility with work schedule to allow for international calls
Location: Nairobi-Kenya
Travel: <15% (including international travel)
