Responsibilities
The incumbent's scope of work will cover:
  • All aspects of Group financial management and setting up internal control

  • Ongoing Project monitoring with professional advice and value addition to complete projects in time and within budget


Preparation of accounts

• Ensure the preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts and reports for operational management

• Responsibility for all journals and final GL balances including review of month end balance sheet reconciliations and control accounts

• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the Group’s accounting records and financial systems

• Production of statutory accounts for the Group and its various subsidiary companies as and when required in accordance with the relevant accounting principles and the legislation of the countries in which they operate

• Supervise and monitor the preparation of the financial statements of all the group companies

• Coordination of external audit activities with group auditors

• Play a full part in providing relevant & timely financial information to the Main Board to enable a balanced and objective assessment of the Group’s strategy and objectives

Budgets and forecasts

• Preparation of budgets, forecasts and business plans and continued monitoring & review of performance against them to enable robust reporting of variances to the Board and third party stakeholders

• Financial modelling

Financial management & controls

• Effectively manage the working capital components of the Group with specific attention to stocks, suppliers, debtors and cash balances

• Active management of overheads whilst seeking out areas for efficiencies for savings

• Overseeing monthly processing of payroll and payments to all group employees

• Review and update, in line with good practice, the Group’s internal control environment and produce a Controls and Procedures manual for review and adoption by management

• To assist the Accountant in respect of periodic reports to the Group’s Audit Committee explaining the processes adopted and undertaken by management to keep under regular review the effectiveness of internal controls covering financial, operational & compliance controls

• Play an active role in assisting management in the risk assessment process and embedding a risk management culture throughout the organization

• Compile, analyse and collect data to determine the financial health of the Company.

• Generate financial reports that display the company’s profits, equity and cash flow.

• Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries.

• Perform monthly, quarterly and annual accounting activities including reconciliations of accounts, coordination and completion of annual audits, and reviewing of financial reports.

• Prepare balance sheets, prepare profit and loss statements and generate financial reports to summarize the financial status.

• Review account books and accounting systems so that they are up-to-date.

• Support preparation of payroll each month with input from Human Resources and Management.

• Comply with government regulations and any impact that it may have on the Company accounting systems.

Taxation

• Support the Accountant in the development and execution of the Group’s taxation strategy

• Ensure returns for Corporation tax, VAT, NSSF, NHIF , WHT and other relevant taxes are submitted, payments made on time and all relevant regulations are complied with

• Develop structures and procedures in regards to accounting systems and procedures to ensure tax efficiency for the group companies

Staff

• Effectively manage, motivate and develop all group staff together with the MD

• Supervise & review performance of all staff together with the MD

• Implementation of a change management culture by challenging & replacing established processes and procedures where necessary

• Give direction and leadership towards the achievement of each subsidiary’s strategy and its annual goals and objectives

• Liaise with different departments to ensure the Finance dept. is properly supporting the needs of the operating businesses

• Perform aspects of Human Resource Management for employees including but not limited to recruitment, induction, development and termination and performance management

General

• Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisers, brokers, bankers and other parties as directed by the Managing Director

• Keep key stakeholders up to date on progress against key milestones

• Ensure the Managing Director is kept informed of industry developments which are relevant to the operation of an efficient finance function

• Ensure day to day operations of the group are running to the required standards

• Carry out any further tasks for which your qualifications & experience are suited as directed by the Group.

• Must be adept with standard technical and computer tools commonly used in office applications, including Microsoft Office Programs and the Internet.

• The individual must have the ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities from a number of sources.

• Must demonstrate proven administrative, time management and organizational skills with the ability to apply great attention to detail, prioritize work and apply judgment to situations.

• Must exhibit the ability to work independently supporting a team of individuals to achieve results.

Working Conditions

• Physical conditions: Sitting for long periods of time at a desk in front of a computer entering data, primary use of computer, keyboarding, walking to printer room regularly. To also visit project sites from time to time.

• Psychological conditions: Deadlines to meet under pressure, irregular work hours at times.
