Lateral Frontiers is a mission-driven venture fund. We invest in early-stage opportunities in Africa. Our fund backs technology-enabled businesses that profitably solve significant pain points across two essential verticals; - financial services and climate tech.
Headquartered in New York, Lateral also has a presence in Silicon Valley, Cairo, Lagos, and Nairobi. We are currently looking to recruit an intern for our Nairobi office to work alongside a partner and a team of analysts. The paid internship would last 6-12 months and there is a possibility of this graduating into a full-time role.
Previous interns have secured full-time roles and will be moving to other markets on a rotating basis. Should you be promoted to Analyst, you will have the opportunity to rotate across other markets and be embedded in Africa's start-up and VC tech hubs.

Job Requirements

Recent graduate, having graduated with an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in the
last 3 yearsStrong academic background
Strong Microsoft Office and Google suite skillset, particularly Excel
Flexible working hours
Will be required to locate to Nairobi for the initial 4-6 months as part of their training program
Ability to complete training material in their own time.
Strong and demonstratable interest in VC, fintech or climate tech.
Strongly Preferred
Numerical degree
Preferable
CFA Level I or above
Some exposure to private equity/venture capital/corporate finance
Some exposure to writing articles, white papers, and media pieces
Some exposure to reviewing legal documents
Some exposure to institutional fundraising

Responsibilities
Deal origination and assessment
Support deal lead in building a proprietary deal pipeline
Responsible for ensuring all deals are appropriately recorded and processed in a timely
mannerWork with the deal team to assess new deal opportunities
Build out financial models and return analysis
Support in writing investment memos
Market research and due diligence on deals
Scheduling
meetings and maintaining communication with foundersSupporting in all deal admin
Other ad hoc tasks
Portfolio management
Support portfolio director in completing and monitoring KPI & 100-day plans
Taking notes during scheduled strategic and financial update calls
Sending out and following up on action points that come from these calls
Supporting deal lead on follow-on investments
Work with the portfolio team to provide support to portfolio companies when required.
Work with the portfolio director to ensure portfolio companies' reporting is complete on time.
Following up with portfolio companies on their obligations, such as loan repayments
Occasionally, interns may be seconded to portfolio companies to complete urgent tasks.
Thought Leadership
Support in producing market research and sector whitepapers
Support in producing monthly investor newsletter
Support in producing thought leadership articles and media
Consistently update the team on ongoing developments in venture capital space
Keeping a calendar of upcoming venture capital events and webinars
Fund administration and fundraising
Support with writing portfolio reports for LPs
Support with producing investor materials for fundraises
Helping schedule investor meetings and maintaining notes on all meetings
Helping organize investor open days
Training Requirements
Successful and timely completion of all training materials
