1. Ensure the unit has all the required resources for effective and efficient work.
2. Timely and accurate billing of laboratory services.
3. Stock management:
a. Do monthly stock takes of lab supplies and submit a stock take and short expiry report to the Hospital Manager
b. Timely ordering and receiving of stock from the supplier to prevent stock outs
c. Proper storage of lab supplies.
d. Kits validation and evaluation to determine diagnostic
accuracy, analytical sensitivity, and analytical specificity (performance characteristics)
4. Review and act on quality indicator reports (IQC &EQA)
5. Follow laid down Lab Board approved rules for medical lab profession and adhere to Government and respective professional standards of care and treatment of patients.
6. Ensure timely response to emergencies.
7. Carrying out tests based on outlined SOPs & policies.
8. Ensure all sentinel incidents/events are recorded and reported to the Hospital Manager within 24 hours using the provided tools.
9. Ensure that the fridge temperatures and ambient temperature and humidity are charted twice daily, and any error reported to the MSM.
10. Ensure timely escalation of any urgent out of stock items to the Lab Quality Manager.
11. Ensure that any issue pertaining quality is escalated to the Lab Quality Manager.
12. Infection control.
a. Maintain and enforce infection control standards when carrying out lab tests.
b. There is proper disposal of medical waste
c. Equipment and other laboratory surfaces are properly disinfected with the right disinfectants
13. Client satisfaction.
14. Be involved in people management in the department.
15. Ensure client satisfaction through high quality of service, effective communication, prompt feedback and escalation of any unresolved issues to the Hospital Manager.
16. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
17. Ensure adequate knowledge of all Avenue policies, procedures and systems as outlined in the HRMIS.
18. Prevention of lab related errors by following the laid down policies and procedures on sample handling during pre-analytical, analytical, and postanalytical phases of testing.
19. Any other duty as assigned by your immediate supervisor in line with the job description.
