Requirements
For appointment to the positions of Chairperson Legal Education Appeals Tribunal, an applicant must be in possession of the qualifications provided under the relevant statute, Legal Education Act, No. 27 of 2012.
- Bachelor of Laws degree or its equivalent from a recognized university;
- Be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya of not less than ten (10) years standing or ten (10) years’ experience in the field of legal education or as a distinguished academic in law;
- Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity.
The chairperson shall discharge the following duties:
- Presiding over all proceedings where he
- she is present in person;
- Constituting such panels or panels of the Tribunal as may be necessary for the fair and expeditious disposal of the business of the Tribunal.
- Assigning the business of the Tribunal to the members.
- Carrying out inquiries into the disputes lodged including summoning witnesses, taking evidence and calling for production of records and other documents.
- Recording proceedings in a clear and accurate manner.
- Writing and pronouncing awards, judgments, orders, rulings and decrees issued by the Tribunal.
- Making rules of the tribunal with respect to the filing, hearing and disposal of disputes and other matters before the Tribunal.
- Providing requisite leadership to ensure the Tribunal attains a high level of competitiveness and ethical standards.
- Driving the Tribunals vision and mission through the implementation of its Programmes and plans.
- Undertaking any other duty assigned for the benefit of the Tribunal.
