- Diagnosis and treatment: The medical officer is responsible for diagnosing and treating a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses among the adult population. They perform physical exams, order diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and provide medical treatments as needed
- Preventive care: The medical officer also focuses on preventing illnesses and promoting wellness by providing preventive care services such as vaccinations, health screenings, and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices.
- Family-centered care: The medical officer provides care to the adult population. They develop long-term relationships with patients and families to provide ongoing care and support.
- Coordination of care: The medical officer works closely with other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care and optimal health outcomes for patients. They may refer patients to specialists when necessary and collaborate with other healthcare providers to develop treatment plans.
- Patient education: The medical officer provides education to patients and their families on various health topics, including disease prevention, medication management, and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Record-keeping: The medical officer maintains accurate medical records of all patient encounters, including diagnoses, treatments, and medications prescribed.
- Participation in organisation wide quality improvement programs to strengthen the clinical governance such as JCI.
