Background
GIZ – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GmbH) – supports the German Government in achieving its goals in international cooperation for sustainable development.
About the Digital Transformation Centre Kenya
The Digital Transformation Centre (DTC) Kenya is a project commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU). It was established to support the country’s digital transition towards a sustainable and human-centred digital economy and society.
The DTC capitalizes on the existing digital and innovation ecosystem and seeks to strengthen it, while also looking at the wider societal impact of digital technologies. Through establishing strategic partnerships across a wide spectrum of public, private, and civil society actors, the DTC’s engagement encompasses several components and initiatives.
About the Digital Dialogue
The German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) engages in a Digital Dialogue
with the Kenyan Ministry of Information, Communications and The Digital Economy (MICDE). The aim of this dialogue is to shape an international framework for digital policy and transformation that benefits the Kenyan and German economies and societies.
As a multi-stakeholder initiative, the Digital Dialogue provides a platform for direct exchange between policy makers, regulators, businesses, academia and civil society from Kenya and Germany. The dialogue addresses topics ranging from internet governance and data policy to the application of emerging technologies, and support for businesses in the digital economy. Regular discussions at government level are prepared and accompanied by stakeholders from both countries. These exchanges provide an opportunity to share best practices and learn from each other. Current issues can be discussed directly with policy makers and the involvement of the stakeholders ensures that political approaches and solutions meet current needs .
Commissioned by BMDV, GIZ supports the Digital Dialogue with a secretariat. The secretariat
monitors current developments, implements cooperation activities and contributes to strategy building. In Kenya, the activities under the Digital Dialogue are planned and implemented in collaboration with the Digital Transformation Centre Kenya.
