Kyagalanyi produces and exports green Robusta and Arabica (washed and natural) coffee from all major growing areas in Uganda, with the vision of making coffee business better, together.

Job Title: Compliance Officer

Department: Finance

Reports to: Senior Financial Controller

Location: Namanve


Job Purpose: The compliance officer is responsible for executing on all compliance related aspects of KCL including periodic reporting to all internal and external stakeholders and any ad hoc requests from corporate.


Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

  • University Graduate with a relevant degree in Auditing, Risk Management, Compliance, Commerce, Accounting or Business Studies

  • Professional qualification e.g., ACCA/ CMA/ CIMA/ CPA with current membership exceeding 3 years a must.

  • At least 3 years of Big four experience in audit is desirable. Professional performance auditing, analytical or similar work experience.

  • Full knowledge of Uganda Statutory Regulations (Tax knowledge is a must)

  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to accurately interpret complex documents and policies

  • Strong time management and organizational skills and able to meet deadlines

  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

Duties and Responsibilities.

Controllership

• In collaboration with the Risk Manager, establish an end-to-end company origin operating manual; maintain and supplement the manual as necessary and be fully involved with ensuring full compliance with the manual.

• Perform all day-to-day and periodic (weekly/ monthly/ quarterly/ Bi-annually/ annually) compliance activities of the organization

• Filing of all regulatory reports for both internal and external stakeholders in accordance with agreed deadlines

• Handling all issues referred to the compliance office and conducting investigations where necessary in collaboration with required stakeholders.

• Reporting to the SFC regularly on any significant compliance issues to ensure appropriate discussion of such compliance issues and working on appropriate actions to address all non-compliance issues

• Monthly reconciliation of all Tax heads against filed returns and URA assessments, and taking corrective action on time

• Monthly reconciliation of NSSF GL against filed returns (and any other social security GLs) and taking corrective action on time.

• Computation of Company tax liabilities, corporate taxes, deferred taxes etc. and collaboration with tax consultants to ensure accuracy & completeness.

• Ensuring that Withholding Tax certificate and all operating licenses are in place and renewed well before expiry

• Carry out all duties and responsibilities as assigned by the SFC and CFO.

• Ensuring that all Legal issues are reported in line with Company policies and tracking of all legal issues with Company Attorneys and group legal.

Performance Manager

• Perform compliance audits with the Risk Manager to determine whether established protocols are being followed and where they can be improved

• Perform periodic compliance reporting/filing of reports with local tax, other statutory and legal requirements, taking corrective action where there is change in regulations

• Communicate adequately to SFC on compliance reports and issues, and initiating actions to ensure compliance

• Responsible for Industry and country intelligence data with a focus on legal and statutory policy changes that have an impact on the organization.

Value manager

• Strict adherence to statutory and group requirements on all reporting requirements.

• Report monthly to region and group on Minimum Control Standards and take corrective actions on issues raised

• Explores opportunities to add value on compliance reporting

• Work with the Risk Manager in conducting internal audits and compliance reviews in different locations and departments.

Strategic Partnership and Collaboration

• Collating and reconciling import and export documents from other departments, perform monthly reconciliations and ensure customs compliance.

• Developing productive working relationships with all department heads

• Working with the Risk Manager and SFC to provide adequate information to staff to ensure that they have the requisite information and knowledge of regulatory issues and requirements to carry out their responsibilities in a lawful and ethical manner

• Interface with the Legal Advisors and Tax advisors, periodically and negotiating with external regulatory agencies.
