Role Summary

The successful applicant will be expected to engage as a teaching and research (T&R) academic in the School of Chemical Engineering, and specifically to play a lead role in growing IUEA’s petroleum engineering (PE) education programs. The role will include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate programs, conducting new research, supervising research higher degree candidates, and performing administrative and other activities associated with the School.

The person

Applicants should possess qualifications in relevant disciplines. You should also have demonstrated capability to undertake research in petroleum engineering with experience in research in unconventional oil and gas resources (e.g. coal seam gas, tight or shale gas resources; Capability to deliver both bachelor and masters level courses; capability to lead the Masters of Petroleum Engineering program; capability to work collaboratively with industry; a demonstrated capacity to develop collaborations and alliances with other organizations internal and external to IUEA; demonstrated capability to win and execute competitive research projects; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues; high-level communication skills and a passion for academic activities including research, teaching, and engagement.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 publications demonstrating an original contribution to knowledge through research in which the applicant is the First Author or Corresponding author in at least 50% of the publications

  • Should have a minimum of five (3) years of teaching experience at a recognized academic institution of higher learning.

  • Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering as a minimum qualification

Along with these key points, this position includes but is not limited to the following duties:

Reports to the Head of Department, and carries out the following duties:

  • Teaching, Examining and Grading Graduate and Undergraduate students.

  • Supervision of research for Undergraduate and Graduate Students.

  • Mentoring of Junior Staff.

  • Conducting research and community outreach activities.

  • Writing proposals for attracting funding to the Department.

  • Perform any other official duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
