About Tosin
What's your name and what do you do
My name is Tosin Adesina. I work as a Senior Sales & Partnership Manager at Big Cabal Media.
What's the best sales strategy you ever used
Social listening. This is defined as a way of mining data about the popularity of a brand or company by extracting information from social media. This strategy works well for me as it helps me know what a brand wants at a particular point in time. For example, if GTB just launched a new USSD code, social listening will enable me to sell a product that will drive its user acquisition or brand awareness instead of pitching something else that will be dumped in the dustbin.
A misconception about sales as a career
That sales is difficult… Actually, it's not. It is the easiest thing to do. By nature, we are all salesmen. We are built to interact with other people and not live in isolation. These individuals are people who will aid your sales process too.
Does sales pay well?
Sales does not really pay well at the initial stage. However, I will advise you not to take a sales job whose salary is tied to your sales performance. It is exploitative. Your salary must be independent of your sales numbers while you should also negotiate for a very good commission on sales closed. However, as you grow in your career you will make a lot of money.
Tell us about the biggest deal you've ever closed
The biggest deal for this year was a Fintech Brand I onboarded that did $50,000 in 7 months
What about the deal you regret losing
This happened in August. I lost a $25,000 deal because the CEO suddenly changed his mind after we have invoiced. It made me sick
