Uganda Society for Disabled Children (USDC) was founded in 1985 and registered with the NGO bureau under No. INDR 3313898NB. It began by providing small–scale welfare help to disabled children and their families, later adopting a Community–Based Rehabilitation (CBR) approach and to date embraces the social model of disability. USDC is a leading childhood disability focused organization in Uganda, reaching over 12,000 children with disabilities (CWDs) annually. USDC offers a holistic package to CWDs, believing that every child is unique and deserves an individual rehabilitation plan to attain their full potential. Parents take centre stage in the rehabilitation of CWDs through PSGs while child participation is fostered through the Child Rights Clubs and other fora whenever available.
USDC operates in 14 core districts of Adjumani, Nebbi, Yumbe, Arua, Lira, Soroti, Jinja, Masaka, Kampala, Luwero, Hoima, Masindi, Buliisa and Kikuube. In addition, USDC operates in partnership with others to reach other districts of Uganda. For example, worked with ActionAid to deliver a project on reducing violence against children and women in Kapchorwa, Bukwo, Kween and Amudat districts ending in 2016. USDC also implemented a 4–year partnership project with Save the Children in Uganda code named Integrated Right to Reading And writing Participation Programme (IREAPP) in 11 districts of Karamoja and central Uganda which would up in 2017.
