We should deliver and perform at acceptable levels with or without criticism,. We should take criticism as part of our careers.
Criticism is someone’s opinion about a situation in progress. It’s like freezing life and asking individuals to share their opinions. Hardly are work based criticisms researched.
Now that the opinions will never stop coming through what kind mindset should you have as this happens continually?
1. You are the only one who can clearly illustrate where you are in life. No one is ever in a perfect place in life and you don’t have to update everyone on your life journey. Have the mindset that this is one person’s opinion and it doesn’t erase the realities in life.
2. Someone took time to give an opinion on you and the work you brought forth. Is there something that you can pick from that engagement? This could be your senior or your peer. Before you become emotional of the words used on you, what can you sieve through? Since you don’t have control over what comes out of anyone’s mouth you decide what you pick from that feedback.
3. You do criticize others too and that is part of life. Before you release words to others remember how that feels. This is mostly when talking to people that don’t have much consequences on us. This is the scenario of a manager to a junior. Which words will build the relationship and what will be regretful?
4. 80% of the times we make daily decisions, big or small, some may be influenced by feelings. What our intuition is telling us. We should deliver and perform at acceptable levels with or without criticism,. We should take criticism as part of our careers. We shouldn’t stop and build a monument around it but take gradual adjustments as we progress with life.
Criticism when taken with the right mindset can shape you as a person and make you more resourceful. IT shouldn't be taken as the total definition of life, it is still one opinion amongst many.
