One of the most debatable topics in the current world is that of employment versus entrepreneurship. The reason why this is so is because of the declining economic growth and rising cost of living. Horror stories of companies laying off their staff members seem to be making headlines day after day, same as the news of these companies making losses too.

As a result most people have adopted the gospel of education is not everything, employment doesn't work and entrepreneurship is the key. Whether this is true or not is something that we can argue over and still never come to a concrete conclusion. If you're one that has been caught up in such a dilemma before, the following tips might be helpful to you.

1. Understand that both options are two sides of the same coin

The first thing that one needs to know is that both entrepreneurship and employment are two sides of the same coin called hard work. It takes effort to excel in either and so it makes more logical sense not to spend time admonishing one over the other and rather spend that time working on being good in the path that you choose. Successful entrepreneurs don't spend their time blabbing about how undesirable employment is and the same goes for the most successful employees of all time. Both paths take time and have valuable lessons to be learned along the way.

2. Both sides are dependent on the other

Now, this is one thing that most people don't like to hear. But the truth of the matter is that for you to get employment, it will depend on their being entrepreneurial ventures that can employ you. For you to start a successful business, you'll need distinguished career men and women to employ. Business and employment are not so much of substitute to each other than they are complimentary. Both allow for wealth and personal fulfilment in the process of satisfying a need.

3. Your decision should be based on experience

A lot of people, especially young men and women straight out of school, choose one of these two paths due to peer pressure and unverified news rather than on their own experience. There's a lot that goes into determining whether you are suited for employment or entrepreneurship and this is not something that can be changed in a second, it takes time to realize. It's important that before you can write off employment, get one and have the first-hand experience of working at one. Before choosing entrepreneurship, run a few side hustles and see how much pressure you can handle.
