About

In 2013, several incidences of public stripping occurred in bus stations around Kenya. These acts of violence inflicted on women were videotaped and posted on the internet, where they caused national and international outrage. As one of the lead organizers of the ensuing #MyDressMyChoice campaign, Flone Initiative became a leader in ending sexual assault and harassment in the public transportation industry of Kenya. The campaign led to the passage of legislation that makes public stripping a criminal offense which is punishable to up to ten years imprisonment. Today, Flone Initiative is a women-led organization registered as a charitable trust in Kenya, working to end violence against women and girls in public spaces by influencing behavioral change, promoting tolerance and acceptance, and strengthening capacities at the grassroots level.
