Medical Access Uganda Limited (MAUL) started in 1998 as a pilot project of the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in collaboration with the Government of Uganda, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and participating pharmaceutical companies. As a not-for-profit organization, MAUL is a company limited by guarantee without share capital. Its establishment is guided by the Companies Act of the Laws of Uganda. MAUL was one of the first organizations to bring ARVs into Africa during the peak of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and it has since evolved from a fully-funded project to a self-sustaining, innovative one-stop-shop for healthcare supply chain management.
