Just because you're out of a job, doesn't mean you can't still be working. Building your career is a full time gig.

Everyone has been unemployed at one point or another. Whether you’ve just graduated from school or are in between jobs, you know what it’s like to be out of work. And just like everyone else, you’ve reached out to people you know, gone on job sites and hit up offices to try and find that dream job. While it’s not great to be out of work, it gives you something that can be the ultimate gift - time.

At Fuzu, we think this is one of the greatest gifts you can get and there are three things you can do during your downtime that can change your perspective on building your career.

Take a course

Life is one long lesson and if you aren’t using every opportunity to learn something new, then you’re doing yourself a disservice. You can always take time to learn a new skill which you can ultimately put on your CV.

Make the most of your time

You might be out of work but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t work to be done. When you’re unemployed, you can volunteer or take up a short term contract. When you finally get into an interview room and have to explain a long unemployment gap, you can show that you still made the most of your time doing something worthwhile.

Work like you’re actually employed

When we think of our dream careers, we usually know the ways we can influence that industry or a particular organisation. During this time, you can create a blog about your desired industry that becomes an information hub for like minded people. If you’re a graphic designer, you can build a portfolio of concept adverts for the type of brands you would like to work with. You should always be constantly building yourself towards your destiny. One great way to stay on top of this is joining a community of people just like you.

A career isn’t a one time thing but a life-long journey and we want to help you get there. Come and join the community on Fuzu today.

Never say never. You "...unemployed all you need to do is to wake up early every morning and go out there even if you don't have have a place to go. Just go. You can volunteer.

Unemployment is not an attractive option.Unemployment can be taken as a pause between jobs to rejuvenate you in your career life.During this "vacation" you can be intern or volunteer. It keeps one busy and with time, experience and free education are gained.Going back to school is another option because you boost your knowledge hence become more marketable. On can travel to new and cheap destination as it brings new opportunities.Exploring your hobbies also offers chance to add value to your life.

I couldn't agree more Susan! I've taken that 'pause' more than a couple of times and each time I started working again I felt so renewed.
