As a job seeker, you should always be ready for interviews. However, there is one thing you will never be ready for, odd interview questions. Unlike the usual interview questions that you will research on the internet on how to answer, there is no particular script that will show you how to answer bizarre interview questions. The best you can do is prepare for anything since most interviewers use such questions to gauge how fast and well you can think on your feet. Here are a few odd interview questions that might throw you off balance.
“Tell us a joke”
You sense of humor has little or nothing to do with hitting the financial targets but having a few jokes prepared up your sleeve is a good idea. The best joke, in this case, should be short and if it’s a pun make sure it is easy to understand to avoid it coming out as dry joke.
“If you were to compare yourself to an animal which one would it be?”
In this instance, the interviewer wants to gauge your thought process and how you identify with your surroundings. You will be safe if your answer comes from asking yourself, which animal characteristics or appearance do you identify with? The “right” answer depends on how you will expound. For instance, if you choose a cat, you can add onto that by saying how cats have a greater capacity for information as compared to dogs since they have twice as many neurons.
“Let’s say you on the lottery today, what would you spend the money on?”
Some might be quick to say they don’t gamble or how they’ll buy that cool gadget they’ve always wanted. But that’s not your interviewer is looking for. They want to find out whether you rush when it comes to making important decisions and how you think about your priorities. If you’ve always wanted to travel, don’t be afraid to say it.
“What song best describes your work ethic?”
There is no right or wrong answer in this case but it is best you talk about a song that motivates you at whatever you do. For example, Jessie J ft B.O.B-Price tag or All I do is win- Dj Khaled depending on your type of music.
There are a few ways you can act smart when responding in case you find yourself in such a situation. To begin with, don’t be in a rush to respond if you are uncertain. It is okay to ask your interviewer for clarification if you didn’t understand the question. You can as well use this trick to buy yourself some time as you come up with a thoughtful answer.
