Afya Research Africa (ARA) was established in Kenya in 2009 initially as a centre of research/evidence that would build a baseline for programs that create access to medical care. Recognizing the significant challenges faced by underserved poor rural populations in accessing healthcare services, we transitioned into action in 2013.Our key mandate was; to provide affordable and nearby primary healthcare services to rural communities, to improve their health outcomes and lives. What was meaningful to ARA was ensuring that every community member in need of medical care could access it, despite the financial barriers they faced.
