“New year, new resolution...” Many people make them but come the first few weeks of January, they give up on them. If this year has taught anything is that we live in unprecedented times and this is no time to make ordinary resolutions. Don’t allow the challenges of 2020 stop you from living your best life in 2021. When you hit rock bottom, the only way left to go is up.

New skills

The job market is getting more competitive and you don’t want to fall behind in your field of work. Keep your eyes open for ways to build your career by learning a new skill. You could take online courses or training in skills like communication, leadership and so on. Make an effort to challenge yourself and learn something new.

Online profile

This can’t be emphasized enough. It is clear that technology is making a huge impact in the job market through the use of social media especially on platforms like LinkedIn. Having a digital footprint that can boost your network with other professionals. Start by creating an account and complete your profile by adding your skills and work experience. Use online platforms to connect with various local and international opportunities.

Work-life balance

Work! Work! And more Work! The need to achieve your goals is demanding and gets overwhelming. Having a healthy lifestyle is equally important in career productivity. Being a workaholic isn’t good for your mind or body. So set aside time during the week to take a walk, spend time with loved ones or just relax. Creating that balance is necessary for your wellbeing.

Self-awareness

In case you didn’t know, the greatest investment you will ever make is in yourself. Making this career resolution means you need to be honest with yourself on your strengths, weaknesses and where it is you hope to be in your career. For example, if this year you have felt unsatisfied in your career and feel the need to do more, then it is time for a career change which means making steps to taking a different path. The best way to invest in yourself is by spending your time wisely. Take a step back and look at the bigger picture.
