It’s that time again when most of us make new resolutions when the new year rolls by. Resolutions help you achieve the goals that you have set out for yourself. Have you made any resolutions for your career? If you have, how do you make sure that you stick to the resolutions? Here are some tips to help you:

  1. Create a plan outline: Think about where you want your career to be at the end of the year. Write down the goals that you need to achieve that resolution. Make sure that the goals are realistic and outline them in a month on month increments; then set out an action plan for those goals.

  2. Are your goals challenging? The more challenging the goal, the higher your drive to achieve them will be. If your goals are easily attainable your enthusiasm will not be as heightened.

  3. Check in with yourself regularly: You want to hold yourself accountable for your action plan. Setting out a calendar to keep track of your goals will be very helpful. According to this article on How Stuff Works, ask yourself some of these questions:

  • Do you have the time to commit to the goals you've set for yourself?

  • Do you have the needed education or skill sets? If not, will you be able to learn these skills?

  • Do you have the resources available to meet your objectives?

  • Do the items on your list suit you as a person -- your personality and interests?

  1. Make your goals public: Letting a few people know about your career resolutions will give you the drive to achieve them.

  2. Reward yourself: When you hit your milestones along the way make sure that you reward yourself. No matter how small the reward, it will help you stay motivated to achieve all your goals.
